|Tonight I will totes be thinking, "Please sir, can I have some more?"|
But I won't ask. But I will almost 100% be thinking it.
I wonder if there are recipes online for gruel? What's in gruel, anyway?
So, I'm going to go and pick up my food bank food in like half an hour. All of the participants were thrown a little off our games when we got some last-minute instruction that says our 5 pantry items cannot be anything edible on its own - so no beans, lentils, rice, or peanut butter. On the upside, salt & pepper counts as one item!
Anyway. I am not going to commit to my 5 pantry items until I see what I get in my basket. However, I have spent the $5 I'm allowed to spent to supplement my food today, on groceries.
And for $4.90 (yessss! Under budget!!), I got:
|6 large eggs, 500mL milk, 125g of butter|
As a celebratory gesture and kind of a last-meal sort of thing, I picked up a pumpkin spice latte on my way home. (*Note: when I used to work across the street from a Starbucks, I waited all year for pumpkin spice latte season to come around. SO GOOD! OH MY).
Anyway, so for $4.99 I got this:
If you're going on a per-use basis, I paid $4.99 for about 5 minutes of pumpkin spice deliciousness. This makes me feel full for about 20 minutes.
And I paid $4.90 for milk (2%, which means I can water it down and use it for longer), butter, and 6 eggs. These components can make at least 3 or 4 meals for me, which will feed me for a few days.
** I know that The Rules state I'm not supposed to get Starbucks anymore, but come on. Pumpkin spice latte season! My last meal before the food basket challenge! These are extenuating circumstances and I hope you all understand.
