Day 203: Subpoena'd!

(Law and Order noise: CHUNK CHUNK!)

I am sitting, innocently enough, eating my lunch. Co-worker comes in to tell me that there is a commissionaire here to see me. She told him I was on lunch, and he was like, "Is she in the facility?" and so she went to get me because he had to hand-deliver the SUBPOENA TO ME.

Yes, friends. I have been SUBPOENA'D! (*this is like being LAWYERED, but even more intense)

(Law and Order noise: CHUNK CHUNK!)

Jerry Orbach will always be my fave Law & Order actor.
Not that that has anything to do with anything, but I take any excuse to post a pic of Jerry O. up here. Did you know he was the voice of Lumiere in "Beauty and the Beast"?

Basically, a few months ago, I called in to report that a bunch of people had parked in the staff parking area of work. And while 14/15 of these people sucked it up, one of these people is challenging their ticket. As my friend SG pointed out - what, are they challenging that their car wasn't there? Are they challenging that they actually work there? What is their case, exactly?

Anyway, I am going to be a witness for the prosecution!

Like in the movie with Marlene Dietrich!
(The movie being, Witness For the Prosecution. Look it up - it's awesome!)

I know what you're thinking: WHAT AM I GOING TO WEAR? And the answer is... hmm. I have never had to choose an outfit to be a witness before. Rather than channeling Lindsay Lohan on her neverending catwalks to court proceedings, I'm going to channel Julianna Margulies in the excellent TV show, The Good Wife. I'm thinking, little black dress, wide belt, dressy shoes, hair glamorously blown out, skin porcelain and flawless.

Julianna Margulies is the definition of courtroom chic.
I think this is why she always wins every case on The Good Wife.
OK, she's also a good lawyer. And married to the state's attorney.

But the point here is, you guys, if you got a $50 parking ticket, would you pay it? Or would you challenge it? Which is the frugal option here? No, scratch that, what is the sensible option here? I mean, honestly? I'd pay the $50 for this person, in order to avoid conflict. I haaaate conflict.

But if they're so determined to avoid paying $50, then maybe they have some sort of reason? If their lawyer is Julianna Margulies, then they might get out of paying this fine. However, I am like an expert witness. My expert testimony shall be: This person was parked in the staff parking area. This person is not on the staff. Thank you. Goodbye.

"Did this person park in the staff parking area?"
"YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH! Oh, I mean, yes."

The trial's not for awhile, though, so I have time to watch episodes of The Good Wife, Law and Order, Law and Order: SUV, Law and Order: Criminal Intent and... I don't know. Those are the only lawyer shows I like. I think that's enough options.

(Law and Order noise: CHUNK CHUNK!)

Will the lawyers all look like Gregory Peck in "To Kill a Mockingbird"? We can only hope!!

Ugh...what a pain. But just so you know, the Good Wife is my absolute FAVORITE, so I would watch that one...:)!

Oh boy.. kind of exciting!

Honestly though, they're in the wrong... why contest the ticket...? I don't get it!

I'm not gonna lie, that's actually kind of awesome. But really though.. are they going to say that their car/license plate was all an illusion?

Maybe they have too many tickets and they're licence is going to be suspended and that's why they're contesting it.

@Sharon - Good Wife is totally my favourite too! At first I thought of dressing like Kalinda (sexy boots and miniskirt) but that might not be as professional.

@Andrea and @Daisy - I'm half psyched and half nervous about the whole thing. It's cool... but so strange. I've got a few more ideas of why they're appealing the case... stay tuned for my next blog!
