Day 62: meal preparations rescheduled due to pizza craving

Apparently, even Barbie is into making her own pizza dough! Not sure who that shorter blond person is. 

You guys!

I was out for supper on Tuesday and I got the most DELICIOUS home-made pizza ever. And this was vaguely in the back of my mind, when I ran into a friend today who was picking up to-go pizza for supper. And suddenly, all thoughts of my meal plan for salmon, brown rice and peas went out the window.

I had to have pizza. But what is the most frugal manner of having pizza?

I had a combo internal/external debate on the way to the grocery store. Luckily, my Frugal Companion was there with me. "Frozen pizza would probably be cheapest," he suggested. "But isn't it more frugal to MAKE THE DOUGH MYSELF?" I wondered. "Well... I suppose..." he said. "But you will need to buy all of the other ingredients." "Maybe there is some sort of mix you can buy to make dough with?" I wondered.

Anyway, I made a quick shopping list (because that's a rule) of yeast and/or pizza dough mix, cheese, and green peppers. Such would be my pizza. And it turns out that they sell such a thing as pizza dough yeast! Which you just mix with oil, water, and flour to make dough! And then it cooks for 12-15 minutes and you have a pizza!

There was a brief moment of panic when I realized I don't actually own a pizza pan, but whatevs. I will make it in a cookie sheet.

And now I have pizza yeast I can use over and over, and I bet making your own pizza is way healthier and also more frugal (in the long run, somehow...) than buying a frozen pre-made pizza.

And now I have to go make some dough. Ha ha, that was my bad joke. Because it dough means money and... yeah, I'm really hungry. S'laters.

I've only recently started making my own dough again (I had some bad experiences in the past with it not rising and me getting all pouty and moody about it). It really is easy, assuming you remember to make it early enough to wait for it to rise.

I hear that the pizza stone is where it's at. That might be my next purchase.

I have no idea how the special pizza yeast I bought works, but you don't even need to wait for it to rise! You just mix it up, knead for a few minutes, then spread it out and add the toppings. Magic!
